Eid is a week closer now and while some of you are busy with what to wear, I think you must’ve forgotten one of Eids’s specialties! Ami ke haath ki kheer aur sheer khurma :p
Lekin iss Eid, kuch naya karte hain! Instead of waking up to your moms or mother in laws desserts, let them wake up to you and a table set with some scrumptious food and dessert!
Here are 5 desserts you can make this Eid to impress your mum & MIL!
1. Chocolate Cinnamon Date Truffles
In a pan, heat butter (½ stick) till it melts and add dates (750g). Let it cook till it has turned pulpy and sticky, mix in 1 tsp of cinnamon and 2 tbsp cocoa powder. Keep aside to cool.
Once cool, remove seeds and roll the mixture into 1 inch balls. Roll them in any of the following crushed pistachios, Oreo crumbs or cocoa powder and serve, chilled.
2. Creamy Sheer Khurma
Fry a packet of vermicelli on low heat, in butter. Add ¼ cup sugar and 1 gallon (16 cups) whole milk, stirring constantly and bring to a boil.
Add raisins, almonds and pistachios (and sugar according to taste). Allow it to simmer on low heat until it is halved and the vermicelli is softened.
3. Fruit Custard
Probably the easiest of them all! Start off by boiling ½ liter milk. After it has boiled, add Rafhans mango custard powder and stir on low heat.
Add a variety of fruits (to your liking) in a glass or bowl and pour the custard! Decorate with cream (& more fruits if you want), chill and serve.
Also, you can go for mango custard since its mango season. Yum!
Making kheer from scratch requires a lottt of work. So let’s settle on a house favorite- Laziza Kheer Mix!
All you have to do is boil 1 liter milk in a pot. Add the kheer mix and stir on medium heat for 15-20 mins, till the mixture becomes thick.
Pour the mixture in a bowl and top it off with diced almonds, pistachios and some chandi ka work (silver). Always serve your kheer chilled.
5. Shahi Tukre
The dish of the royalty! A few simple steps start of by cutting the bread slices in half diagonally. This is followed by deep frying the slices until they’re light brown.
Now, in a pot add 1 liter of milk (ideally for 1 packet of bread), ¼ tsp zarday ka rang, 4 crushed elaichi pods and sugar according to your taste.
Cook the mixture on medium heat for 10-15mins until it has halved. Dip the bread slices in the milk mixture and set on a plate but wait…… we’re not done yet.
Add half a packet of cream to the mixture to thicken and cook on low heat for 5 mins.
Now pour over the slices, garnish with sliced almonds, pistachios and chandi ka work & Voila.
So, this Eid get ready to impress your mom and mother in laws and their cookery approval means-mummy khush tou sab khush!
